This is exquisitely written and illustrated, as always, Liz! It’s great to hear from you. And the best part of the whole story: “Liz is a freelance writer based in Brooklyn. She is working on her first book.”
Oh to be in NY and be able to go to Creative Mornings. I can only imagine that the writing groups are solid gold as well. It's such a gift to have a creative community that fosters the work. I fell out of my Wednesday night writing group and I'm missing it something fierce right now. Thanks for sharing this part of your life!
Truly. Whenever I get fed up with the crowds and the snow and the rats, I go to a Writeshop and it's all worth it again. It turns out that my people were there all along.
It's always a toss up if I am more excited to read your words or look at your photos. Your posts are always captivating and beautifully written. I was recently encouraging my son to put on his favorite song, open his arms WIDE, tilt his head back, and slowly spin around (he is 15 so this didn't work out well, for the record) because I want him to get comfortable TAKING UP SPACE. Making his presence known. Being proud of himself simply for being himself. Clearly it is a very difficult lesson to learn at any age and I'm happy for you, that you are embracing this for yourself. I know the book will be magic.
Thanks Amy! I love that you’re modeling that and also you’re brave. If I tried that with the 15-year-old, eyes would roll so hard! But yes, it’s such a hard one to learn for some reason, and I would have loved to have that modeled for me when I was younger, even though I probably would have rolled my eyes at the time too.
It is so beautiful to see your artistic self rising, bravely staking her claim: This is Me, I am Here. What a journey you have been on. The pictures alone tell it all... Also, I was happy to read that you are working on a book! I sensed you were. 😊
Ah, thank you. Yes, it’s been simmering for some time, had to take some time away from Substack to let things be messy for a while. And they’re still messy, but now I can occasionally multitask.

Yeah! Agreed with Liz!
And I'm so happy you started sharing your work here, Liz. That Artist's Way group was everything!! I'll be back at writeshop sooooon

I’ve missed you every Friday. You’ve been busy refining your art - this piece is so beautiful & so many things weaved well together! Uh, rat costumes!
Thank you! I’m glad someone appreciated the rat costumes! 😂
I’ve never heard of the concept shadow artist but it makes so much sense. I’m so glad you are producing such wonderful art for us to read. ❤️
Thanks Brenna! And I just peeked over to your recent post (I’ve been in a writing cave recently). It looks stunning where you are!
